Something remarkable is happening on our small Caribbean island, and the world is noticing. The New York Times recently named Saba 9th on its prestigious “52 Places to Go in 2026” list, celebrating what we’ve known for years: this is the “Unspoiled Queen of the Caribbean.” But here’s what makes this recognition truly significant—Saba is growing in all the right ways while losing nothing of its soul.
The Times highlighted what sets us apart: untouched, stunning nature, world-class hiking and diving, and a genuine commitment to sustainability. Saba runs on solar power during daylight hours and has banned single-use plastics. This isn’t greenwashing—it’s how we live.
The new ‘Scenery Hotel’ in Windwardside exemplifies this philosophy, offering modern comfort while operating on solar energy. And it’s not just new establishments—our longstanding hotels, restaurants, and businesses continuously improve and reinvest, sustaining both quality of life and the meaningful work that defines this community.
We’re witnessing thoughtful infrastructure improvements too. A new harbor is enhancing accessibility without compromising our intimate scale. New homes are rising, built to blend with Saba’s distinctive character.
Perhaps most telling: popular rental estates are being purchased and converted back into full-time private residences. These aren’t speculators—these are people who’ve fallen deeply in love with Saba and are choosing to make it their own.
In our twelve years here, Albert and I have learned that Saba reveals itself in layers. We meet with visitors who’ve been coming here for twenty years or more, assisting them by booking their next trip a full year in advance. Others are adding to their property portfolios, buying additional land and homes, returning year after year for the diving and hiking, discovering new trails, new dive sites, new friendships with every visit.
Here’s something powerful about a community of just 2,000 residents: you don’t remain an outsider for long. The intimate scale means you quickly become part of something real. You’re not anonymous here. You’re recognized at the grocery store, welcomed at community events, known by name. This isn’t lost as Saba grows—it’s protected by it. The people investing here understand that this scale, this authenticity, is exactly what they’re buying into.
This is growth without compromise. Saba isn’t becoming something else—it’s becoming more deeply itself. The Times recognition validates what long-time visitors and residents have always known, but it also creates opportunity. More people will discover Saba, and some will realize this is where they want to invest, visit regularly, open businesses, and eventually call home.
The real estate market reflects this evolution. Inventory remains limited, with homes and land ranging from $300,000 to $2 million and some at much higher pricing because of the acreage and location, and what does become available is moving to buyers who understand Saba’s unique value. They’re not looking for overbuilt gated resorts or high-rises—those will never exist here. They’re looking for authentic connection to a place that prioritizes conservation, community, and natural beauty that can’t be replicated.
If you’ve been curious about Saba, let’s talk. Albert and I help people understand not just the official facts, but what life here actually means—what works, what challenges you might face, what opportunities exist right now. This is your moment to explore what Saba might mean for you.
