Preserve Saba’s beauty – plain, stunning nature – dramatic, tender, savage earth – extreme lush green plants – brilliant blue Caribbean sea and sky – gorgeous climate.
Protect the quality of life we love – the safety – the friendly community – peace – crowd less without traffic jams – not overbuilt.
We recently read an article by Michael Gross about our dear neighbor St. Barths, and how it has changed and not for the better – “The paradise island is lost at sea due to overdevelopment, flashy investors, and $70 shrimp pastas… overbuilt with unfinished million-dollar properties… garbage… lines of traffic.” Some people say what made St. Barth special is gone forever.
Don’t let the natural beauty of Saba be disrupted – exploited – vandalized
There are good and different purposes in projected growth and planning done with respect and goodwill. Hence, the island and people are cared for – life improved for the right reasons – enabling Saba to be more itself – all it can be – compared to care–less greed, selfish owning, developing more than is needed.
> What are the responsibilities of investors who may leave unfinished homes and corrupted land?
> How should they be held accountable?
> What is justice to the environment and people?
Goodwill is the hope that good things happen to people and things with a constant desire to know what those good things are and to see that those good things are well-managed and not ignored.
If your environment is good, healthy, and positive, then your life benefits. Harmony and well-being are part of nature’s precious gifts, and our innate and profound obligation should be to honor and protect nature as we live in it.
The world is in flux
People are looking for a haven in a changing world that can be frightening. Our deepest needs are not to manage the world, not to run nature for personal profit but to care for it, to give back what we receive, to be generous, not to thoughtlessly sell it off, overbuild, and ruin natural beauty.
A home in nature, be it a small parcel of land, a cottage or villa, the state you live in, or an entire country, is something we all can care about. Our choices about how we treat the earth create the future for us all. People coming home to nature, and Saba exemplifies this: return to the beginnings of life. They see the essentials and values of life thriving and how it affects our families, relationships, jobs, and daily living. That’s crucial. It speaks to the heart and commitments for justice.
These words by American poet and humanist Walt Whitman deeply express us as people who love Saba, as real estate agents and developers who respect the environment, and we believe many others who also love Saba and want the best for for it.
“After you have exhausted what there is in business, politics, conviviality, and so on – have found that none of these finally satisfy, or permanently wear – what remains? Nature remains; to bring out from their torpid recesses, the affinities of a man or woman with the open air, the trees, fields, the changes of seasons — the sun by day and the stars of heaven by night.”
